Lots of parking, fairly quick service, plenty of options. Somewhat crowded.
It wasn't as busy as other people (assuming they eat there regularly). We ordered chicken feet soup, Chinese broccoli (sorry I don't know the actual name of the vegetable), and some dim sum plates. I wasn't all that excited about the soup because it tasted funny. But everything else was spot-on great.
For the Bourdain experience
Located in Chinatown. This place has absolutely delicious dim sum. They offered hot tea while looking at the menu and the environment is comfortable. The food came way faster than expected for ordering 9 plates and I was not disappointed with any plate. The staff was polite and enjoyed my laughing and screaming baby and giving kind comments. This place is so far my favorite place to eat dim sum in Chinatown. 10/10 will eat here again.
Love it. Service was topnotch
Great food. Service can be better but what do you expect from a Chinese dim sum place, LOL.
That's where I get my Dim Sum. Quality is very consistent. Prices are very reasonable. Seating is kind of limited. Take out is fast.
Yummy place for dim sum. Not cheap but great food.
Delicious and great selection
Food is okay, service was not good. Went in early in the morning and we were the only ones there for a while and yet they hardly ever made any eye contact with us. I ordered two different kind, and for one of them my friend and I ordered the same thing but only one came out. We waited for the other one to come out and it didn't until we asked for it again (after being ignored a few times). For the other order, I got tired of waiting and asked when it will come out, only to be informed that they don't serve that item for another 2 hours. It wouldve been nice if the waitress told us in the first place when I was ordering so I could've ordered something else.
One of the best dim sum place in china town.😀
Debbie K.Tai Pan Dim Sum the best Dim Sum. Every time I want to eat Dim Sum Tai Pan is my go to place. Hot, fresh and onolicious. Their Custard Tart yummilicious. There are so many Dim Sum to choose from. Their usually busy. I buy take out. All the Dim Sum are packed neatly in containers with hot sauces separate napkins and chop sticks too. The Ladies are friendly. The man at the register friendly. Next time you have the Dim Sum hungries try Tai Pan Dim Sum your tummy will be happy you did.😊
My family has been going here for more than a decade. We started eating here before they expanded their restaurant to fit more tables. The dim sum is always hot and fresh and I haven't been disappointed by anything on the menu.Ordering is easy for customers like me who don't speak Chinese with the favorites shown on a picture menu. I mainly order by pointing at the picture to make sure I get the right food, which I've had an issue with at some other dim sum restaurants. Whatever makes ordering easier, I'm down!My favorite is the shrimp look fun. The sauce is delicious and it always comes out fresh and hot. I love egg tarts and I love that they have it on their menu! If it's in the display case, you can take it to your table. They were all out when we got there, but we were able to get fresh egg tarts. Delicious! My family and I will continue to eat dim sum here for a long time!
Fresh dim sum. Great prices. Cash only?
Great place for dim sum, try the pot stickers and beef brisket soup.
Competitive price dimsum restaurant.
Awe, this place used to be my 'Go-To' spot for breakfast chinese appetizers, but last time I checked in, my favorite dishes lost their identity.
Terrific dim sum. Locally owned business that deserves our support. Their specialty is the lion's head fish ball on greens. Why lion's head? It is a humongous juicy fish ball shaped like a lion's mane with savory sauce served on a perfectly crisp bed of greens. Healthy and delicious. You need to try this. They also have some of the best dan tat or egg tarts around. The owners a friendly and make you feel like one of the family. Also tried any of their stir fried dishes especially noodles. They have super high BTU woks in the back that literally look like a dragon breathing fire. Anyone who knows good Chinese food knows this is critical to properly prepared stir fry dishes.

Bustling, fast, and eccentric dim sum at Chinese cultural plaza.
With a wide selection of things here, ranging from the usual pork buns to this carrot looking dessert with a nice filling inside. Their staff are friendly and they have nice paintings and fish.
Food was just ok, not worth the money.
good local dim sum place, always crowed.
Love this restaurant! Food is really ono!
I growth up in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong. S have tasted many so called Chinese food in American (most famous might be Panda), I would say this Guangdong sytle cooking resterant is the authentic one in Hawaii so far. If you are a Ametican or foreigner , please only believe these are the ture Chinese cooking ( Guangdong and Honkong style), but not Panda! You can have a try for every dim sun because each of them is totally different taste and all are good.
Good Chinese dim sum options and many additional Cantonese dishes and good bakery.
Taipan is a little different from traditional dimsum restaurants in that they dont have the cart that comes around to serve you. This is an advantage for them because they are able to offer the freshest, newly made dimsum when you order it! Recommend the Pan Fried Chive Cakes and the Turnip Cakes!
That's a 1 star plus for the chrysanthemum tea otherwise 2 stars at this place. Here's why:1. Svc is less than pleasant. The waitresses attitude are mixed, some were nice but some just see u as a nuisance rather than customer.2. Food is mediocre. There are better quality restaurants for the same price in the same Cultural Plaza.3. The ambience is a generic Chinese diner like everywhere else Downtown: Greasy table, disposable bamboo chopsticks, 1 lousy napkin, a fish tank (animal cruelty, the kois are far too many and too big in that small tank albeit water color is clear).4. For the price, I'd take my Nom Nom to another place. Tai Pan used to be competitively priced. Well, not any more.5. Missus n I almost shared a round table with another party of 2, but they soon left after a brief 60 sec. Guess my pigsty eating habit finally paid off!! Scored!!
Tai Pan is the "most" authentic Hong Kong style dim sum in town. Everywhere else's dim sum seems to be "localized" or "bastardized." Service is hit or miss, depending on which table you landed on. The waiting system is chaotic. Some Chinese done follow protocol and just walk in and sit down. Except for the owner/cashier, all the staffs are female, even the cook and kitchen helps. Strange but not strange. Have fun eating dim sum. Save me the chicken feet - phoenix's claw on the menu.
I love their pastries especially the cheese toast bread and cheese hotdogs!!Fluffy and tasty...Yummz and the staff accommodates my requests!!
This place is absolutely wonderful. Has large variety of foods for dim sum and entrees. Menus have pictures if you are unfamiliar with the dishes. Service is great, considering it's Chinatown and most places don't provide good service. This is a place I would go to on a weekly basis
Much less expensive than I anticipated and the steamed buns I had were good. Most of the items appear to be made in advance and heated when ordered.
Delicious dimsum. Crispy carrot is my fav!
Awesome place for Dim Sum. Love their sharing shumai and scallop lok fun.
Absolutely fabulous! Authentic. Where the locals eat. I highly recommend.
Terrible service and dim sum is so bland! It used to taste so good before. Maybe new cook in the kitchen.
Authentic dim sum in China Town. I highly recommend. Great friendly staff. Priced right. Oh, try the egg custard bread for dessert
Worst dim sum I've ever had.
This is the best Dim Sum I have ever eaten. All the items were very tasty. I came here 3 time when I was in Hawaii and will be coming back when I get the chance. This is a must go to enjoy real tasting Dim Sum.
This was my first time here for dim sum. U order what items u want and it's made to order!!! Fried items were light, crispy and did not taste oily!!!! The waitresses were friendly, helpful, and brought our food out quickly. Will defenitely go back!!!
Busy place for dim sum! Delicious. Fast and friendly service.
Located in the Chinese Cultural Plaza, this is a nice dim sum place where you order off a menu instead of the rolling carts.
Awesome dim sum. Great variety, and great food. A no nonsense restaurant focusing on the great food and quick service. I have been here many a time, and have yet to find something on the menu that I don't like. I love exploring new dishes everytime I visit. The crispy carrot desert, and the egg tart are exquisite.
i asked a waitress some iced water for my kids and this is what I got. Then I got out and walked to Legend right away. I only had to wait for 25min for a seat but it's ok as long as there's no bug in the water.
I love this little hidden jem. The food was fresh and so GOOD!😊 we had some dim sum and seafood fried rice. The atmosphere had a homey feel. The service was great, if we had questions about the food our server would explain and also make suggestions. Will definitely be back.
Good food but less than par service. The workers take a while before they acknowledge you at the door and to take your order. At least the food comes promptly and they are fairly nice to you
Good price and taste good
Craig K.Tai Pan has delicious Dim Sum. Just about everything on the menu is good. When I bite into the Dim Sum the delicious flavor just burst in my mouth. It's a small Resturant but always busy. I always make take out. They put the Dim Sum nicley in containers and give the sauces too.
The experience my fiance and I had here was very offputting. We left feeling disappointed and disrespected. We did not have a large order, however the staff forgot to bring our rice and neglected to bring the waters we had asked for. While dining, my fiance had to get our saucers and take out boxes. They made haste in tallying up our bill. The staff continued to stand over my shoulder as I counted my cash, then as I searched for my debit card and parking ticket. Upon return, the staff still hovered waiting to see the tip amount. I intended not to leave any tip, as my fiance provided all service besides bringing the food and processing my card. I was stopped by the staff immediately after standing. The staff member was calling me to turn around and shouted in a rude manner, "Hey, hey! You must leave a table tip!"I threw a single folded dollar on the table and proceeded to walk out. The staff member unfolded the bill, scowling at us as we exited the restaurant.
Dim sum good... service not so good...
